Supportive and Affordale Housing Coming to #ourhomeSTC

Very excited that City of St. CatharinesNiagara Region, and Niagara Regional Housing (NRH) announced the development plans at 320 Geneva St.. The plans include building more than 80 units of supportive and affordable housing over three phases.

In my opinion, this is a great example of two levels of government working together to ensure that the City of St. Catharines sees the building of  Bridge and affordable housing in our city.  At almost every council meeting we talk about the need for affordable housing, the impact that the housing, homelessness and addiction are having on our community and all who live in our city – this was and is our opportunity to take action.  I have been fully in support of this project since it was brought to council and I am thankful that almost all of my collegues supported the much needed project.

The three phases for the project will include a mixture of Bridge Housing, NRH affordable housing (townhouses) and land for private market development. The third phase will be marketed and sold by NRH at fair market value to help offset the cost of the other units.

The first phase of the project will be Bridge Housing. Bridge Housing clients are individuals who are chronically homeless. They represent less than 10 per cent of unique individuals who access shelter services, however, they utilize almost 40 per cent of available beds. Building Bridge Housing will free up significant numbers of shelter beds and mitigate the need to invest further in short-term solutions.

Ground is expected to be broken in mid-2025 and be completed in the summer of 2026.
