19 Feb Kiwanis Aquatics Centre Job Shadowing
Thank you #TEAMSTC for arranging my day of shadowing the team at Guest Services at the Kiwanis Aquatics Centre. I had an amazing day!
I had the opportunity to tour the entire building (wow, you could never tell that the building is 10 years old), check guests in, learn from the incredible team and see them in action.
We as a city are so incredibly fortunate to have such a thoughtful, caring, kind and compassionate group of people taking care of the guests that come to our aquatic centre. Our team goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is greeted with a smile, a kind word, all while making sure that everyone is safe. How they remember so many names of the guests is beyond me.
There were so many wonderful moments of learning for me. I watched as the team dealt with a vulnerable person who was in need of help, that was handled with calm, compassion and caring. I learned about the FAIR program to help those in our community with reducing fees by 50%.
And maybe most wonderful thing was learning about the “mobile interpreter” that allows staff to speak to residents in their first language. The “mobile interpreter” uses both audio and video and speaks over 90 languages including Arabic, Ukraninan and American Sign Langugage.
And then there were the guests. To see so many residents it was incredible. From the ladies who come for water walking and stayed for 2 hours after having coffee, lunch and conversation; to those with mobility difficulties using the pool to move; to the parents with small kids learning to swim.
The aquatics centre is so much more than just a pool.
Thank you TeamSTC for a day that I will not soon forget.
